Standards and compliance

The documentation that makes a machine saleable.

Machinery DirectiveTechnical fileRisk assessmentSTIEN 14033Audits

What it's about

A machine without a technical file can't be sold, and a poorly made file is worse than none: in a dispute it becomes the evidence against whoever signed it. We build the documentation so that it stands up to an inspection, not just a tick box.

The studio has two years' experience of independent conformity assessment at a certification body in the railway sector: we know the documentation from the side of those who have to verify it, not just those who produce it.

The railway sector has its own section, much more extensive than this page: interoperability, TSI and national rules, structural frame analysis, interoperability constituents, on-track machines and locomotives. Go to the railway section →

What it includes

Technical fileBuilding and reorganising the file: drawings, calculations, diagrams, risk analysis and test records.
Risk assessmentAnalysis according to the reference standards, reduction measures and documented residual risk.
Harmonised standardsIdentifying the applicable standards and checking the relevant requirements point by point.
Functional safetyDefining the required performance level for the safety functions and verifying the chain.
Railway sectorTechnical specifications for interoperability, EN 14033 for on-track machines, assessment and review of test reports.
Operating and maintenance manualWriting the manual with the required information, safety instructions and maintenance plan.
Audit supportPreparing for inspections, handling findings and interfacing with the notified body.

How we work

  1. ScopingWhat the machine is from a regulatory point of view, which directives and standards apply, which assessment procedure.
  2. Risk analysisIdentifying hazards across the whole life cycle, estimating risk and defining measures.
  3. Building the fileCollecting and organising all the elements, with a list of what is missing and must be produced.
  4. Close-outDeclaration of conformity, marking, manual and — where required — support through the external assessment.

FAQ

Can you sign the declaration of conformity?

No: the declaration is signed by the manufacturer, who takes responsibility for it. We prepare everything that supports it and check that it is complete and consistent.

Do you work on machines already in service?

Yes. The typical case is an old machine to be brought up to standard or a line made of several machines that becomes an assembly: both have a defined documentation route.

What changes for the railway sector?

The regulatory framework changes: you work with technical specifications for interoperability and dedicated standards such as EN 14033, with an independent body doing the verification. The documentation logic, however, is the same.

How we work together

This service is activated with one of the three collaboration options: a closed per-project job, a monthly bank of hours as an external technical office, or a one-off job with a narrow scope. The option is chosen together at the offer stage, depending on how well defined the work is.

Standards and compliance

We start from what you already have

A drawing, a photo, a specification or even just the problem described in words: that's enough for a first concrete answer.

Can we help?

Tell us briefly what you need: we'll point you to the right service and timeline, with no obligation.
