Line equipment, handling systems, gripping devices and assembly stations for series production: designed around cycle time, repeatability and operator safety.

The work in this sector

In the automotive sector tooling runs thousands of cycles a day: a grip that works loose, a datum that shifts by a few tenths or a guard that is bypassed are paid for in scrap, line stoppages and injuries. That is why the design starts from the cycle, the part and the datums, not from the drawing of the structure.

The studio designs line equipment, handling systems, beams and gripping devices for robots and manipulators, and manual or automatic assembly stations, all to order. Every project reaches the workshop with the 3D model, the drawings, the bill of materials and the calculations needed for CE marking.

What we design

Gripping devices and beamsGrippers, vacuum cups and beams for robots and manipulators: grip points on the part, verification of loads, lifting points and deflection under load.
Welding and assembly fixturesFixtures with datums and clamps, repeatable positioning, access for torch, gun or operator.
Handling systemsConveyors, shuttles, lifters and transfer stations, with the selection of geared motors, guides and drives.
Assembly stationsManual and automatic workstations: ergonomics, cycle time, control devices and operating sequence.
Guards and safetyGuards, interlocks, safety distances and performance level of the safety functions, within the risk assessment.
Documentation for the lineManufacturing drawings, bills of materials, operating and maintenance manual, technical file of the machine or partly completed machinery.

Reference standards

Before designing, the regulatory scope is defined: which standards apply, in which version and with which customer requirements.

Directive 2006/42/ECEssential safety requirements for machinery; from 20 January 2027 Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 applies.
EN ISO 12100Risk assessment and risk reduction: the starting point for every machine and every powered piece of equipment.
EN ISO 13849-1Performance level of the safety functions of control systems.
EN ISO 10218-1 / -2Safety of industrial robots and robot cells, including gripping devices.
EN ISO 13855 / 13857Positioning of protective devices and safety distances from hazard zones.
EN 13155Non-fixed load lifting attachments: beams, grippers and vacuum cups used with hoists and manipulators.
EN 619Safety of continuous handling equipment for unit loads.
VDI 2230Calculation of loaded bolted joints, starting from the attachments of the gripping devices.
Customer standardsTechnical specifications, approved components and suppliers of the customer: they are adopted at the start of the project.
Versions in force

Standards are revised fairly often: the first activity in every project is to check which edition applies at the date of the design.

How we work

  1. Cycle and partCycle time, variants, part datums, tolerances and interfaces with robot, line and operator.
  2. ConceptTwo or three solutions compared on cost, footprint, cycle time and safety, with the reasons for the choice.
  3. Design and calculations3D model, structural checks, selection of commercial components and risk analysis.
  4. DocumentationDrawings, bill of materials, cycle diagram, manual and technical file.
  5. Start-upSupport during assembly and commissioning, and revision of the drawings as built.

FAQ

Do you work to the standards of our end customer?

Yes. Components, suppliers and formats required by the manufacturer are adopted at the start of the project and become part of the design specification.

Can you carry out only the calculation of a gripping device that is already designed?

Yes: the verification of lifting beams, grippers and lifting points is also among the proven services with a fixed price.

Do you also handle the CE marking of the equipment?

We prepare the risk assessment, the calculations, the manual and the technical file. The declaration remains the manufacturer's, who signs it.
